Granite Hole Drilling Part 4
This is the design plan for the granite gantry. There is over 100 holes planned in this puppy making for a lot of work to come.
I just found another granite drilling video. You can see how the sludge is too thick really at this point because i am not keeping fresh water going into it because i am holding the camera.
And the gantry rail holes are all drilled finally.
Here I just made a simple jig matching the size of the granite end to act as a guide for scoring the granite with the core drill. I can't remember but i think these were M12 inserts I went with. The holes were going to be hand drilled as i I didn't want to risk standing the granite on its end.
Again, I made a little wooden jig for holding the core bit square to the end.
Holy hell it was hard working drill these holes compared to using a pillar drill.
4 Down, 4 more to go!
Before a cleanup.
After a cleanup looking quite tidy. You may wonder why I chose not to use more bolts in this end, but when it comes round to sharing the design for the gantry assembly you will understand how the support of this gantry is spread across all the faces of this granite block.
Its coming together slowly but surely.
