HIWIN Linear Rails & Carriage Delivery

Wooden container that CRD Devices delivered the HIWIN equipment in

This is how the delivery from HIWIN arrived. By all accounts the rails are stocked and cut in the UK by CRD Devices and the carriages etc are a stock item. I am not sure on the validity of this as it seems there is an awful lot of combinations and accessories that would have to be stocked. Either way, the delivery arrived within a week or so.

The order was as follows...

x2 30mm Rail @ 1300mm for the X Axis

x2 30mm Rail @ 1000mm for the Y axis

x4 HGH30 Carriages with KK Seals added.

I only bought 4 carriages at this stage so i could help set all the rails. I figured if i made any changes in the future like inrease the rail size or whatever, it was easier to just return a small number or just buy the remaining ones when i needed them instead of god knows how long early where they would just be sat gathering dust.

There was a quality problem with the delivery. A screw holding together the wooden carton had split a piece of wood inside and damaged the top face of two of the 1300mm rails. Having sent the photos to CRD, they promptly sent two more brand new rails and didn't expect the old ones returned. They also promised to investigate and implement some corrective action so thats what you really want in a supplier. I had no complaints, it was just one of those things. I have absolutely no problem reccomending them to anyone. You can see what happened on the photos below...

Here you can see the screw running across the top of the rail.

The screw almost missed the wood but split out of it and run across the top of two rails.

It had to be done, so I offered up the rails and carriages to take a look what they would look like.I was certainly experiencing 'Pre' PTSD about all the holes that needed drilling. Haha! Couldn't wait to get stuck in!

Looking all good with the 1300mm rails and carriages rested on the Granite Gantry.

The choice of 30mm rails feels well balanced for the size of assembly.

The Y rails are again 30mm, but these are 1000mm long. As a visual indicator I checked to see if i could see any light coming through under the rails and I could not, so it was another nice indication that the grind was successul.

Not sure whats next but it will be coming soon!
